Is silver necklace safe for my 4 month old?

Our sitter is very nice and she bought a silver necklace with a jade pendant for our son. Instead of giving it to us, she put it on him. Obviously we want to be appreciative and respectful and would leave it if it's no big deal. My questions are... is silver safe for a baby to wear? are there any potential choking hazard with the necklace? Thanks much for your help.

No. Nothing should be around the baby's neck. Your baby could start sucking on the pendant and choke. Hang the necklace in a special spot in the baby's room to show you appreciate the gift.
Reply:This is for sure a choking hazard.There is no reason for a four month old to have a necklace.
Reply:it's good to be kind to people when they give gifts... but when something tells you your child is in any way in danger, gift or not... get rid of it.


easy going people usually cange their ways after having a baby... it hardens the spirit... you start not to care so much for others feelings... you just care about the safety and well being of your child.


Wait for jewelery until after the kid can put it on and take it off by himself.
Reply:absolutely not. don't put anything around your child's neck. NOT SAFE! tell your sitter thanks for the gift and find a new sitter if she isn't smart enough to know that NOTHING should be around a baby's neck.
Reply:my son would wrap his bib around himself while he slept. So I would deffinently not have him wear it. UNLESS YOU CAN WATCH HIM CONSTANTLY WHILE HE WEARS IT. Sometime silver can irritate his skin. I don't want to son rude but if she thinks this should be worn by a baby, she may not be a good sitter.
Reply:There is nothing wrong with silver: teethers, rattles, and baby spoons were traditionally made from silver. Now they know silver is naturally antibacterial.





As for a necklace, well in all honesty a silver chain probably isn't strong enough to strangle a baby, it would break. However the broken pieces/pendant could be a choking hazard.





Personally I wouldn't let my baby wear a necklace, but I wouldn't have any problem with silver.
