I just bought a new litter box that came with these small pellets to use instead of regular cat litter. I set it up next to her old box and sprinkled some pellets into the old box like the instructions said. So far she hasn't used the new box (it has only been one night) but, she will go and sit or lay down in the new box. Should I let her do that, or will she continue to think that her new and improved litter box is just for relaxing in? I Need her to use this new box, as I live in a small trailer and don't have a good spot for the box. I'm tired of the smell and mess the other litter box makes. Any other suggestions on how to get her to understand that she needs to use the new box? I know it may take a few days, but any thoughts you can share about how to make this easy for my precious baby Jade?
Thanks.
How do I get my 2 year old cat to use her new litter box?
put some dirty litter from the old one in the new one, so she'll smell that it's for peeing in. then, remove the old one. leaving her two options will cause her to use the old one.
Reply:transfer some of the poop from the old litter box in there and even put some of the old kitty litter on top... just a small layer. She may lay in it for awhile, but I would do that and just take the old one away... she will know what it is for even if she does lay in it. I have usually had no problems transfering litter boxes once the cats know what it is for.
Reply:place her in the litterbox and get one of paws and dig for her to show her what to do by doing that, do it like 3 times a day . if she starts to pee somewhere else grab her and place her in the tray and do the paw thing again.
i have 6 cats( 4 strays) and 3 from pet stores and we have used this method every time. we live on a big property so having thay many is only good for the rats lol
Reply:Maybe she doesn't like the new litter. Cats are picky. Have you tried the scoopable kind? It feels like clay litter but is easier to clean.
Maybe this new litter smells funny? Is there an unscented version?
Try mixing half of the old litter with half of the new litter until you can convert to the new litter.
Good luck!
Peace =^..^=
Reply:Hi there this may sound yucky but if there is any leftover kitty feces in the old box and you have a scooper put some in the new box and remove the old box completely then watch her and she should use it just as she did her old box. Best of luck:)
